Simple Things

Simple Things

School's over and I'm in the process of moving out. All the food that I've stockpiled during this winter has started to look less comforting and more worrisome as I am faced with either consuming 20 cans of canned chicken breast in the following week or pacing them up into the car and transporting them back home. What girl doesn't relish the thought of driving so much chicken over several state lines?

Anyway, what definitely will not be going home is the baking supplies that I've slowly amassed through this year. Several bags of flour, chocolate chips, and four sticks of butter. I was determined to use these up quickly and whip up some decadent cakes or twee cookies. Except, that's way too much work for one person who's still slowly getting over the traumatizing effects of sleep deprivation and finals. Plus, the lack of any air conditioning in my apartment made me sluggish and doing anything more than the bare minimum seemed utterly crazy.

In this heat muddled haze, I convinced myself that it would be a wonderful idea to make cookies without baking soda or a recipe. Then stuck them in the oven, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best. After eight minutes, I opened opened the oven door and...

Not so bad if I say so myself!

So if anyone happens to feel as lazy as I am here are the semi jumbled steps to making cookies without a recipe.

Cleaning out your Pantry Cookies

*Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

*Melt one stick of butter in a microwave safe bowl. You'll want to use a bowl that's large enough that you'll be able to mix all your other ingredients in them too.

*Put in around 1 cup of sugar (white or brown works). It doesn't matter how much really. Mix into the butter. (This will be easiest when the butter is still hot).

*Beat in one egg.

*Start Folding in flour and continue doing so until the mixture isn't mushy anymore. Once you've reached a consistency that's moldable into small balls put in your toppings. You can use chocolate chips, nuts, dried fruits, gummy bears, etc.

*Mold into small balls and put onto your greased baking pan.

*Bake for 8 minutes and then enjoy!
